About the YearDear Families,
I hope you all had a wonderful summer. As we begin a new school year, I wanted to introduce myself to you and your child. My name is Mr. Silverberg and I will be teaching all the Physical Education classes from pre- kindergarten thru sixth grade. This is my second year at JIQ and excited to begin another fun school year. I have such a passion for teaching young minds as well as being energetic and active. Physical Education was my concentration in college, so I am excited to bring the ideas and knowledge I've learned in my years of school. Our goal in physical education is for everyone to learn to make healthy choices and feel successful when participating in a variety of activities. This enables students to develop a positive attitude toward physical activity and healthy habits, which will hopefully continue throughout their lives. Students will be encouraged to have fun and enjoy PE. They will also be encouraged to participate to the best of their ability in a wide variety of activities. At the elementary level, certain skills are taught so that students will be able to pursue competitive sports as well as lifetime sports. Basic introductory skills for the following activities will be taught: (For Pre-K-1) Locomotor movements, personal space and spatial awareness and more. (2nd-3rd) Rhythm and dance, yoga and more (4th-6th grade) Organized games and activities – volleyball, pillo polo, soccer, football, basketball and more; Cooperative games; and recreational activities – street games, European handball, wiffle ball, and many more fun activities. I am excited to begin another year with your children. If you need to reach out to me my email is at the top. Thank you so much. Sincerely, Joshua Silverberg |
Life ain't a spectator sport, I say, To adolescents gathered for class; Give what you can give each day,
And success will soon come to pass: I see in the stands, while coaching, A fantasizing, unfit hoard; Sitting and watching others play, Not seeming even one bit bored: T.V's are on in every house, Five to eight hours each day; Lulling brains and bodies to sleep, So passively their lives decay: It's years of sitting and looking, With sodas and junk food all night; Training bodies to lounge and peer, Somehow, it just doesn't seem right: Do spectators enjoy themselves, Or are they secretly afraid? To actively live for fear they may fail, Living life as a phoney charade: Life ain't a spectator sport, I say, Participation is the game that's in; Strive daily to do the best you can, In life's game you will always win.
